Taipei is the perfect layover city en route to LAX, but I would have preferred to stay a couple days as opposed to…8 hours.
We were super lucky a colleague from one of our overseas studios was happy to show us around her city. We had a lovely Taiwanese breakfast at World Soy Milk Magnate and then walked around the National Theater and Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. We took the metro to Taipei University and had milk tea and boba (it is the birthplace of it, after all) and explored the neighborhood.
Afterwards, we went to Taipei 101 and had lunch at Din Tai Fung. The steamed dumplings alone were worth the short trip.
It was such a whirlwind day that I neglected to take a lot of photos, but it was a 1:15 AM flight so can you blame me? :/ I’m just so glad to have had someone really show us the highlights of her city. I hope I can come back and spend more time here! (And eat more dumplings and drink more boba!)
