Would you believe me if I said I was busy? I’m sorry I haven’t been keeping this place up and running. After my summer vacation, it’s been very busy at work and on the weekends. Though I’m no longer matriculated, the great thing about fall though is the back-to-school sales. A Beautiful Mess had a back-to-school sale, and I bought a Photoshop and Beginner’s DSLR class! I’m loving it so far. What’s great is that it’s entirely online, and I can go at my own pace (which is snail, at best). I can re-visit past lessons, print handy guides, there’s even a forum where I can ask questions or read questions from previous students. The sales prices are over, but let me say that it’s worth every penny.
Getting back into photography reminded me of my high-school days when I took a photography course for a semester. We shot on black and white film on SLRs (I borrowed Dad’s trusty Nikon that he bought from the Navy Exchange). We learned camera basics, how to compose and expose, and how to develop film in a darkroom. I can still remember the vinegary smell of the closet-size darkroom where eight of us stood over formica countertops and pools of chemicals. Fun times. Dad’s camera hasn’t been getting any use ever since we all gone digital so I asked him if I could borrow it for a while. Dad seemed happy to see his camera out and about, and he even found film in their fridge! It expired in 2001. He showed me how to load the camera (I haven’t done it since high school), and I took some portraits of him and Mom. I hope they come out okay!
