So…I had a nice Thursday…
It was just like the movie. Woke up, saw a beautiful day, and decided that it was worth it. And this day was. Went to the gym and then ate at breakfast at a local diner.
Firstly: business. I had people coming over that weekend (and who decidedly cancelled–CANCELLED! Both parties! Usually I am relieved when people do that but I was actually looking forward to the visit and prepped my ass off, anyway, that’s the past). So I spent the morning cleaning and doing laundry.
Since I was still full from breakfast, I skipped lunch and went to the Getty Museum. I figured it would be a perfect museum day. Less crowded than the weekends, but still full of interesting people for people watching: tour groups, students, other people playing hooky from work. And I wasn’t disappointed. I wanted to see Chino Otsuka’s photography series Imagine Finding Me. Beautiful photos of young Chino and grown-up Chino all taken at the same place and merged so that she stood beside herself. It reminds me a lot of that Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind production photo of Kate Winslet and Jim Carrey holding the younger actors that portrayed them.
Yeah, it was a lot like that.
Wandered the grounds. Took photos with Dad’s Nikon. Sometimes had rooms of art all to myself. It was just the kind of day I really needed.
Took the surface streets home since I didn’t want to sit in traffic. Don’t remember what I did for dinner or what I did the rest of the night. What I do remember is that it was OK. To take these kinds of days once in a while. To remember that there is world outside of my work and home. To remember there is so much beauty to see.
